Imperial Making S.A's Roads Safer One Zebra Crossing At A Time

IMPERIAL is setting out to change the lives of thousands of school children through its Scholar Patrol Improvement Project. At a rate of 20 schools per month, IMPERIAL will not only train learners and teachers in the basics of road safety, it will refurbish zebra crossings and supply scholar patrol visibility bibs and equipment. This is just another way we are making South Africa's roads safer, especially for those most vulnerable – our children.

Global Road Safety Partnership South Africa in full support of the Second UN Global Road Safety Week

The Second UN Global Road Safety Week was held on the 6-12 May 2013 and was dedicated to pedestrian safety. Requested by the UN General Assembly, the Week has drawn attention to the urgent need to better protect pedestrians worldwide, generate action on the measures needed to do so, and contribute to achieving the goal of the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020 to save millions of lives.

Millions of South Africans are dependent on walking as a key element in their routes to work or school, and this increases their exposure to risk. Statistics indicate that pedestrian and hit-and-run crashes are the highest contributors (44.76%) to road crashes in South Africa.
