Dr sEBASTIAN Van As qualified in 1985 specializing in trauma surgery. For 12 years of his career he focused on child trauma surgery and he quickly realized the need to focus attention on the prevention of child injuries.
According to statistics, the top three child killers in South Africa are motor crashes; pedestrian fatalities due to reckless drivers and lastly, burns. The aim is to provide education to address the core root of these top three killers so that we prevent the child being injured.
Dr Van As has extensive networks in road safety, health and the medical professions. His aim is to raise awareness in the health industry about road safety, in order for the medical profession to pay more attention to road safety issues and preventative strategies.
